Happy Birthday Sutton

Today, you are 1! I want you to know that you were no mistake or “oops, I’m pregnant.” You were so wanted and prayed for my child. I prayed the verse Psalm 113:9. “He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.” God’s timing was perfect to place you in our lives! Oh, and if you like sushi or good at chopsticks one day, its because when your Dad and I got back from playing baseball in Seoul, South Korea we found out we were pregnant with you!

I can’t believe it has been a year since you completely took me by surprise with your entrance into this world. At 37 weeks, you were ready to meet me, and my water broke at 2AM. I was so nervous because you had flipped and were breached. Your Dad was in West Palm Beach, FL working and wouldn’t answer his phone. FINALLY… your Dad called me back to learn that I would have a c-section to deliver you, and he was rushing to get a flight out to meet you! You were born at 5:30AM at 5 pounds 12 ounces and 18.5 inches long of perfection. Your Nana was the first to hold you, and she snapped a video of you for your Dad. In between connection flights, he was able to see that video to know you were a healthy baby!

At 4 weeks old, you made your first stay at a hotel in New Orleans because Dad’s job is the coolest, and he wanted to spend time with you too! During your first 5 months of life, you and I spent so much time together! You slept through numerous baseball games and got use to all the loud noises. There were other baseball babes and mamas that we sat with in the stands, and I couldn’t have done it without their encouragement that truly made me feel like I was doing the best I could for you while Dad was away working most of the time. It was obviously hard for me at times but you became my little companion and made watching Dad pitch not as nerve racking. I was exclusively breastfeeding you as well, and it took a lot out of your Mama! We made it through though and still going strong today.

In your first year of life, you traveled to Louisiana, Colorado, Texas and the Dominican Republic. I remember flying with you for the first time to Colorado Springs to watch Daddy pitch at 5 months old. I was so nervous but you did great! Your Nana always said, “Sutton is fine as long as he is with his Mama.” The bond we have shared this past year has been indescribable my son. Through the first year of your life, it would secretly thrill my soul when people would say, “He sure does love his Mama.”

You were dedicated to the Lord at PAO (Professional Athletes Outreach) in San Antonio, TX by Francis Chan. One day, you will realize just how cool that is. I asked him to pray for your salvation and future wife as we dedicated you to God because you are His child first and foremost little one. He is just letting us have you here on this Earth and oh, how thankful we are that he chose us to your parents!

March 4, 2017 will forever be the day my heart grew bigger, and my life was forever changed because God put you in my life! I want you to remember the verse Psalm 139:13-14 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Your going to do great things in this world, and I promise to always be by your side to support and encourage you! You’re our greatest little blessing! Happy birthday my sweet son!

Thanks for reading!

XOXO,

HC
