Satisfied

Life has been crazy as one can imagine going from Seoul back to America to find out we are pregnant to S leaving for Buffalo to trying to organize my life with all the craziness in between.  With that being said, the first couple of weeks I was sick and tired all the time so really had no motivation to keep my blog up to date.  However, after hearing the sermon today I felt compelled to write this post.  The preacher talked about our jobs and how many people work hard to feel satisfied.  We are so busy building a business that we forget to build a life.

I started to think of how no matter what good things happen we always seem to want more.  We are never truly satisfied with what we have or the good things in our life we always want more.  I honestly believe this is human nature, but we must sit back and enjoy the good things and be satisfied.  In baseball, there are so many different levels before getting to the big leagues.  I remember S and I saying, “Oh, if we could just get to AA.”  Then it went from AA to AAA to 40 man to big leagues to getting more opportunities and so forth and so on.  S reached all those levels and it still isn’t satisfying and you know why because only Jesus can truly satisfy us.  Our jobs do not define us but Jesus can if you let him.  Baseball is a sport that is played and to us its considered a job that pays our bills.  It doesn’t define us because our true identity is in Jesus Christ.  As a woman in the game of baseball, its a tough road with no certainty, but I found as long as I have my identity in Christ I can make it through the ups and downs (which WILL not IF happen in every single season).

I think of the passing of Jose Fernandez this morning in a boat accident.  He was only 24 years old and a pitcher with a bright future ahead of him.  However, we will all die its the circle of life, and we will leave behind everything.  In heaven, your salary, bank account, car, designer clothes, shoes, etc won’t make it to heaven.  Asking Jesus to be Lord of your life will get you there, and He will be waiting on you with arms opened and thats what matters on this earth.  When S is out there on the mound pitching, it isn’t about him, me, family or friends, but rather about playing because God gave him the ability to do it.  I remember when we were in High A in Dunedin, FL, S’s manager’s wife, Gari Meachem, did a lunch/Bible study for the girls who were traveling that season.  She said that sometimes as wives and girlfriends we can get lost in this lifestyle as we support our men but to remember when sitting in the stands there is always an opportunity to share Jesus and thats what matters the most in life.  WOW!  I let that sink in and realized I do have an important job as a  wife/Christian in the stands.

Do not find your satisfaction in a job because it will let you down every time but rather find it in Jesus.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”  Colossians 3:23

Our condolences goes out to the Miami Marlins and family of Jose Fernandez.

Thanks for reading,

XOXO,

HC
